My Europe Trip Part 3/6

Paris

Boasting branded handbags and apparels, Paris is definitely on every Fashionista bucket list. What about travellers? Apart from the handbags and the Eiffel Tower, take it from me that Paris is definitely worth visiting. There’s something about Paris that makes you fall in love with the city. Nope, I’m not talking about the fancy handbags. Instead, it’s the connection you feel between the city and you…

Accommodations in Paris are relatively more expensive as compared to the other cities. Even then, there are definitely cheap alternatives such as hostels lying around though it might not be as clean. Transport in Paris mainly involves train and take note when buying transport tickets, be careful of the middle-eastern people offering their help to you. These people are not staffs (even though they have staff tags) of the transportation system though I have no idea why are they doing this. Anyway, if you’re a glutton then you’re in luck. Throughout my Europe trip, Paris is definitely the top choice for food. Though restaurant food are expensive, at a certain time (forgot what time) in the evening, certain restaurants offer a dinner deal which costs about $10-15 EUR for a three course meal. These restaurants are scattered around the streets near Saint-Michel Station.

You probably already know, the Louvre Museum is one of the world’s largest museums. A central landmark of Paris, this place is definitely worth a visit even if you do not plan to enter the museum. Do take note that the Museum closes sometime for certain purpose so check before going.

Call me an idiot, but up till now I still think about the attractiveness of the Eiffel Tower. I mean its just a piece of metal sky scraper but why the attraction? Nonetheless, it’s a trademark of Paris and if you’re there do head down the Eiffel Tower. For better experience, grab a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread and some goat cheese (or whatever) and just sit at a nearby park to dine in the Parisian way. A very important thing to note is that near the Eiffel Tower area, there are many hustlers trying to win your money by playing simple games such as “Guessing cup” (A game where dealer will ask you to pick the cup out of 3 which has the dice in it). More often than not, they have accomplices who pretend to lose money to entice tourists to play. Stake is about $50 EUR per game thus it’s pretty attractive to participate.

Not commonly advertised, the Paris Catacomb is an underground cemetery that holds the remains of about six million people. Not an ideal place to bring a date but if you’re adventurous and keen on history, this might be the place for you.

If you’re planning a trip to Paris, do take extra precaution in your belongings. The increasing influx of foreigners (mainly middle-eastern) has made Paris less safe. Scams and pickpockets are pretty common in Paris. The unusual scam, which my friend fell for it, happened at the subway station.

Scenario was as such: The gantry leading to the subway station was already open when my friend walks past it. Then, a dressed up policeman approached my friend requesting for ID for the petty crime she just committed. Upon receiving my friend’s passport he threatened not to give it back unless a payment of $50 EUR is made. Helpless, my friend gave in and just like that, a day worth of meal is gone.

If you’d ask me, 4D3N stay in Paris is definitely enough. I spent 5D4N in Paris and basically my friend and I got sick of the city on the last night. Still, it’s a must-stop if you’re travelling around Europe.
